Passed away peacefully Friday, December 2, 2016 at the age of 51 at his home. Greg, born July 12, 1965 in Toledo, OH was a treasured son of Donald and Carolyn (Mohler) Kern.

He grew up in Bowling Green, OH and attended Albion College where he was a member of the football and track teams. While at Albion, he formed lifelong friendships and a strong bond with his ATO brothers. He even caught the eye of a young freshman, Patricia “Trish” (Tait) Kern. On June 17, 1989, he and Trish were united in marriage and experienced many adventures together for the last 27 years. Their love produced two sons, Lance Kern of Albion, MI and Ryan Kern of Lawrence, MI. Greg was very proud of what fine young men they grew to be.

Despite being preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn (Mohler) Kern, Greg’s family, his father, Donald Kern of Bowling Green, OH; brother, Brian (Miranda) Kern of Stockbridge, GA; and his several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins will continue to celebrate and carry Greg’s legacy and passion in their own lives. Greg had been a Kalamazoo area resident for the last 16 years and was an Operations Manager with Benteler Automotive in Holland, MI. While he could be described as a perpetual 12 year old mixed within a hopeless romantic, Greg possessed an unconditional love for his family and friends. He and Trish loved to travel, celebrated the holidays to the fullest, and never missed a chance to cheer on his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.

His family would like to extend their thanks to family and friends who supported them through this most difficult time. As you keep Greg and his family in your hearts, find comfort in knowing Greg is now comfortably sitting at Eternity’s beach. With his feet in the sand, his face to the sun, and a cold one in hand, he is joyfully listening to a Buckeyes’ game while patiently waiting for the rest of the party to arrive.
