Gregory Phillip “Greg” Shelby, 68, of Franklin, Indiana, passed away at his residence on Monday, June 7, 2021.
Greg was born on September 11, 1952 in Beech Grove, Indiana to the late Wanda Mae (Thompson) Jackson.
Greg married the love of his life, Deborah Lee “Debbie” (Deppe) Shelby on December 29, 1973 in Indianapolis, Indiana. They were married for 47 wonderful years.
Greg enjoyed working as a truck driver for Scott Trucking and retired in 2020.
Greg was a huge fan of NASCAR and was always excited to watch his favorite drivers, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He was his son’s biggest fan and loved going to support and watch Todd race outlaw figure 8 cars at the Indianapolis Speedrome. He was a wonderful father and a loving husband. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He treasured taking his grandkids to have fun at Franklin Skate Club, where all the kids knew him as “Papa.” Along with creating memories with his loved ones, he enjoyed bird watching, feeding birds, and watching Friday night boxing.
Greg is survived by his wife, Debbie Shelby of Franklin, IN; his two children, Todd (Kim) Shelby of Indianapolis, IN and Amber Shelby of Franklin, IN; his five grandchildren, Jalen Shelby, Jacob, Shelby, Todd “TJ” Shelby, Brittni Murphy, and JT Stiles; his two great-grandchildren, Peyton Murphy and Blayne Murphy.
Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Jackson, and his sister, Lisa M. Long.
