Gregory “Smiley” Wayne Mehochko, 36, of O’Fallon, IL, born January 4, 1977 in Belleville, IL, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO, after a tragic work related accident that occurred on January 23, 2013. Greg was a shy, soft spoken, kind and compassionate young man with a dazzling infectious smile thus given the nickname “Smiley”. Greg was loved by so many and those that knew him were blessed by his presence in their lives.
He was a 1995 graduate of O’Fallon Township High School, a laborer and member of Laborers Local 670. Greg loved the outdoors and hanging out with his friends. He enjoyed fishing, looking for mushrooms and always looked forward to hunting season. The family wishes to acknowledge with deep and loving appreciation the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown to them during this time of bereavement, especially to the many dear friends, and the Doctors and Staff at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Greg was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Guy “Dick” and Edith, nee Warhoover, Ahle, and paternal grandparents, Edward and Mrytle, nee Rolfingsmeier, Mehochko. He is survived by his mother Nancy, nee Ahle, Mehochko, father Brad Mehochko, a brother Guy (Katie) Mehochko, a niece Lorali Rose Mehochko, a nephew, Jack Edward Mehochko, his beloved dogs Rusty and Snowy, aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear and special friends.
