Gregory A. Brinkley , age 71, passed away unexpectedly April 24, 2023. A beloved father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He was born on August 11, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio to Donald and Daisy Brinkley. He grew up in Eastgate , as the second of six children. He was a proud graduate of East High School class of 1969. An avid athlete and sports fan, Greg participated in several different leagues ranging from basketball, softball, and even flag football throughout his adult years. He really enjoyed his experience playing basketball with his brother Dave for teams such as the Columbus Old Timers.
Hard working all his life, his time and tenure with both the Red Flame and Labors Local #423 were very cherished. He was a part of several architectural projects such as the erection of the Jerome Schottensteins Center. He was known for being well dressed and having a big heart; as he would help anyone in any way that he could. A survivor of kidney failure, he was on kidney dialysis for over 20 years at Fresenius on East Broad Street.
Left to cherish his memory are his son Gregory and daughter Youlanda James. Grandchildren Steven and Aisha Brinkley, Marquita Clark, Nee, Quan, and Shawn James. Brother Steve, and sisters Beverley and Stacey Brinkley. Nephews Michael, David, Kevin, and Derek Brinkley. Nieces Laraunde, Nia, and Nisa Brinkley. Along with a good amount of cousins and friends who became extended family.
