Grant Cobb was a good and kind man who had a good long life. He was born in Denver, CO in October of 1929, just days before Wall Street crashed and the Great Depression began. However, he described his childhood as just wonderful. He had many stories about growing up around Tennyson Street with his adored older sister and his rowdy group of friends, who many of these became literal life-long friends.
As he grew older he became the protective big brother of 3 more sisters. He loved his school years at Holy Family and has many forever friends from his graduating class.
He joined the Navy because there was a rumor that a draft was coming. The draft didn’t happen & he shared that it was an interesting adventure and he got a tatoo that he really never liked.
He got his first job in fourth grade, selling magazine subscriptions door to door . He continued to have a variety of jobs including when his father brought him into the world of work at the family plumbing business. After being fired and rehired several time by PaPa, he went to work at Coors. He said this was one of his favorite jobs and it wasn’t because of the free beer since he didn’t drink much. His least favorite job was owning his own business and he once brought home a can of beans as payment for a job which was not well received by his accountant/wife. He was just too nice. His last job at Boys & Girls Clubs gave him a chance to use all his acquired skills. He was not ready to retire and would have been happier to work until his last breath.
He has many hilarious dating stories where ironically he ended up the loser. His first date with the love of his life, Muriel, was a disaster. He took her to a nice supper club where the act was a guy in a gorilla suit chasing a half naked woman around the room. He heard the words “TAKE ME HOME!”. Somehow he convinced her to not only go on a second date but marry him later in 1953. They were happily married for 65 years on earth with it continuing on the other side—-until death do us part didn’t apply to them.
They had 3 daughters, followed by 3 sons. They gave the family special holiday and vacation memories to hold close in our hearts. Eventually son and daughters-in-laws joined which the family grew and added 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
After his father died he became the devoted son to his mother.
A few years ago his heart broke when his ‘Lady” Muriel died. However, his older years were blessed by his family that loved and cared for him in his home where he passed into the gates of Heaven surrounded by their voices and hearts.
Grant said he had a few regrets as most do, but said he had nothing to complain about and he had enjoyed a good life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel, his parents and sister.
