William Grady Lawson, 88, of Ramseur, died Monday, November 20, 2017 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

Grady had a distinguished history of community involvement, serving for 40 years on the Randolph County Board of Education and 28 years on the board of Randolph Community College.  He was honored with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Hunt in 1984.

Grady was an avid supporter and sponsor of American Legion baseball and was most proud of the over $2 million in college scholarships earned by his baseball players. He was an active fundraiser for Eastern Randolph High School athletic teams, including organizing 32 years of Christmas tree sales. He was inducted into the American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame, the Eastern Randolph High School Hall of Fame, and the baseball field at Eastern Randolph is named in his honor.

In addition to his parents, Grady was preceded in death by his sister Peggy and his brother Gene.

Survivors: wife, Helen Carmac Lawson, of the home, daughter, Gina Young, and husband, Tom, of Raleigh, son, Mike Lawson, of Lexington, sister, Doris Arrington, of Liberty, grandchildren, Brad Young, and wife, Casey, Kelly Young, Ali Young, Bobby Lawson.
