It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Gracie Harvey who entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 25, 2020 at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center.
Gracie Mae Morris Harvey, daughter of the late Lonnie “Snoots” and Millie Bowe Morris, was born on May 1, 1944 in Elizabeth City, NC. She peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on December 25, 2020.
During Gracie Mae’s childhood years, she joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where she attended with her siblings and their mother and father and remained a faithful member until her health failed her. Their mother was heavily involved in the church and had a singing group called Galileettes. Gracie Mae was educated in the Pasquotank County Public schools.
Later in life, Gracie then meet Johnie D. Harvey Jr. and they were later married on September 28, 1959. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey were blessed with four children Johnie D. Harvey III, Reola M. Harvey, Derrick D. Harvey and Maria M Harvey.
Gracie was a homemaker where she enjoyed making home cooked meals, sewing clothing for the entire family and made sure her family was well taken care of.
During her retirement years, the Harvey family established Harvey’s Catering where Gracie was instrumental in making all of the desserts. Her specialty was Lemon Lime pound cake and Pineapple cake. She was also famous for her sweet potato biscuits and sweet potato pies. She loved to watch TV especially QVC where she learned about the latest fashion and would always update her wardrobe to the latest style of clothing.
Gracie leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband of 61 years Johnie D. Harvey Jr., her children Johnie D. Harvey III. (Catherine), Reola M. Harvey, Derrick D. Harvey, and Maria M. Harvey along with a special daughter Rosalyn P. Coston (Alvin). She has six grandchildren Kendra M. Godfrey, Tiyana D. Harvey (Khalani Belsches), Matravia N. Seymore, Deanna D. Godfrey, Derrick Harvey, and Travon Harvey along with three great-grandchildren Kiyana A. Harvey, Bryson J. Godfrey and Aalani K. Belsches. Her two sisters Wilma Jean Barnett (late George), Martha Griffin (Raymond) and one sister in law Zelphia Henry (late Levin) a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister Faye Morris-Little, her brothers Lonnie Morris Jr, William (Tick) Morris, James (Jimmie) Morris, her niece Angela Whitehurst and nephew Kenton Griffin.
