Grace Spear Baisch

(1935-2017)

Gracie Spear Baisch was born September 15, 1935 in Emmett, Idaho to Gladys Rosalie Gray of Oregon and James Fitzhugh Lee (Hugh) Spear of Arkansas.

In 1953, Gracie married Lawrence Louis Hoffman. They had two children, Linda and Micheal. After becoming a widow in 1957, Gracie met and married Junior Leon Adkins. Nancy, Susie, Judy, Vicky and Sandy were all born of this marriage. The marriage later ended in divorce. In 1965, Gracie married William Henry Baisch and they had one child, Ruth.

Gracie worked hard to care for her family. She spent nearly ten years at the Boise Cascade Sawmill, pulling green chain and working as an award winning grader. She spent several years working at the Cherry Blossom and the bowling alley, as well.

Gracie helped feed her family by canning pears, peaches and apricots. She would add food coloring to the pears and then line the jars along the cellar shelf and stand proudly gazing at her brightly colored fruit. Her pickling skills were renowned.

Gracie left us June 24, 2017. The sky was bright blue and the air was just a bit cool. It was a beautiful day to pass into the hands of the Lord. Gracie is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Tom, Walter and John Spear; six sisters, Gladys Ruth Grothaus, Marigold Joseph, Dovie Kriezenbeck, Minnie Tappe and Linda Pinkert. She is survived by her brother Robert and all eight of her children.
