Grace Dorothy Mutonyi passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022, in Danbury, Connecticut, where she lived for three years. Grace was born on April 22nd, 1969, in Kampala, Uganda, to the late Florence Wanyenya and John Henry Mauso.
She was well respected and admired for her diligence, care, and compassion.
Grace never forgot her friends or a birthday. You could always rely on her to check in to see how you were or wish you a happy holiday. Grace always encouraged her friends and family to follow their dreams and heart and never sell themselves short. On May 29th, 1988, she came to the United States as a teenager with nothing except her dreams. Grace worked hard for everything she had and built a great life for herself. She started working at Columbia Presbyterian in the phlebotomy department. Then she worked herself up to becoming a certified EEG technician. Grace was a great worker and beloved by her friends and co-workers. In August 2017, she went to Uganda for the first time. Two years later, she started adopting two infants in Uganda, Eli Gideon Mauso and Esme Angel Mauso, to give them a better life. She was a sweet, loving mother with a heart of gold.
Grace is survived in Uganda by her son Eli and her daughter Esme. After Grace Mutonyi’s parents divorced, they each remarried, and Grace has sisters and brothers on both sides. On her father’s side, there is David Wanda Mauso, Rose Mauso, Robert Mabisi, Jennifer Mauso, Fred Wanda Mauso, Grace Nakaya Mauso, Irene Khainza Mauso, and Chris Mauso. On her mother’s side, she is survived by siblings Florence Wanyenya Kasaija, Barbara Wanyenya, Rachel, Asimwe Hassan Kasaija, Agness Kasaija, Dorthy Mbabzi, Sarah Amanyire Kasaija, Juliet Kasaija Kiberu, and Jophesi Muthesesi Kasaija.
In the United States, Grace Mutonyi is survived by Aunt Felicity Loyce Khaitsa, immediate cousin Anthony Wasiyo and his wife Lyn Wasiyo, cousin Dr. Margaret Khaitsa Wasiyo, and many dear friends in the United States.
