TURNER, GRACE
Grace Day Turner, 97, much beloved mother, grandmother,
and great grandmother passed away peacefully on
December 4, 2016 surrounded by her family. Born on
May 20th, 1919 in Elmhurst, Il., her family moved to
Miami Beach where she attended St. Patrick’s Elementary
and High School.
Grace graduated from the University of Miami, was a
member of Sigma Alpha IOTA, the national fraternity for
women in music. She spent the summer of 1939 working at
Fleischer’s Studio of Animated Cartoons drawing “Popeye,”
“Betty Boop” and worked on the film, “Gulliver’s Travels.”
Grace taught at Pinecrest Elementary for 31 years and
was an active member of St.
serving as a Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, and volunteer.
She belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma, The Miami
Pioneers/Natives of Dade, and attended the UM’s Institute
for Retired Professionals. She was a world traveler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her
life, C. E. “Ned” Turner who she met at the university. She is
survived by her loving daughters, Elaine (Wesley) Brooker
and Carol (Michael) Witkowski, 6 grandchildren, Mike
(Cindy) Witkowski, Mark Witkowski, David Brooker,
Jennifer (Jason) Guest, Jamie (Chad) Bartlet, Brian (Sarah)
Brooker and 18 great grandchildren; Parker, Maison, John,
Noah, Patrick, Mary Grace, Anthony, Nathan, Mary
Catherine, David, Anna, Jacob, Brayden, Ethan, Liam, Jack,
Gracie, and Aaron.
