Grace Chapman, 87, of Freeport, Illinois, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2018, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Wayne Symington of Tucson, Arizona.

She was born July 4, 1930, the daughter of the late Thomas and Grace Gigliotti from Lorain, Ohio. She attended Clearview High School along with her two brothers, Dr. Thomas and Dr. Jerome Gigliotti.

Grace studied home economics at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where she met her husband, Jack W. Chapman. Their wedding was on June 9, 1951, in the campus chapel.  They were married for 57 years before Jack passed away on June 1, 2008.

Together Jack and Grace enjoyed traveling all over the United States, Mexico, and Spain through Jack’s Occidental Life conventions. Grace was an outstanding homemaker and enjoyed cooking, playing golf, all spectator sports, bridge parties, and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Grace had a strong faith in God and enjoyed worshiping at local churches.  In the Gigliotti family, she was the first generation born in the United States.  She was very patriotic.  She was known as, “a firecracker baby” because she was born on July 4th.  She loved God, family, and country.

In her senior years, Grace experienced several “bucket list” adventures: traveling to Italy to visit the country where her father was born, parasailing over the Lake of the Ozarks, whitewater rafting down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, and riding in a hot air balloon over the Tucson Mountains.

She is survived by her three daughters: Barbara (Ron) Samuelson of Freeport, Illinois, Nancy (Wayne)  Symington of Tucson, Arizona, Carol Chapman of Stockton, Illinois, and two sons: John (Nancy) Chapman of West Lafayette, Indiana, and James (Darla) Chapman of Olathe, Kansas.

She has 9 living grandchildren; Ashley, Jack, Matthew, Gracie, Brandon, BreAnna, Brock, Jay, and Scott, and 4 great grandchildren; Colby, Tyler, Elle, and Emery.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Dr. Jerome Gigliotti and grandson, Marcus John Samuelson.
