Grace B. Cooksey
Grace B. Cooksey died peacefully at her home while surrounded by family on Tuesday afternoon, May 15, 2012, at the age of 92. Her husband Ron, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage, predeceased her in 2005. She is survived by daughter Grace Ellen and son-in-law Donald Washington of Franklin, North Carolina; daughter Marcia and son-in-law Rainer Hoeke of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; son Ross and daughter-in-law Kristine (Heiney) of Palm Harbor, Florida;
Grandsons Ronald Karl Hoeke of Melbourne, Australia, and Ryan and Justin Cooksey of Palm Harbor, Florida. She also leaves behind her faithful dog and constant companion Molly.
Grace was an enthusiastic Air Force wife who enjoyed travel and making new friends. Along with their children, she accompanied her husband for more than two decades from New Mexico to Pennsylvania and Greenland to Germany. When Ron retired from the Air Force to live in Fort Walton Beach in 1971, Grace began a career as a kindergarten teacher at Shalimar Elementary School. She taught there until her retirement in 1982.
Throughout her life she loved music and dance, her husband being her favorite dance partner.
