On October 28, 2014 The Rev. Mr. Gordon S. Harris passed away peacefully at home at age 95. Beloved husband of Kathaleen Harris (née Reininger). Devoted father of Pamela Harris, Sharon Pekrol, her husband Joe, Gordon Harris Jr., Jeffrey Harris, Deborah Dotterer, her husband Kevin, Jill Sherbs, and Rebecca Peed, her husband Robert. Loving grandfather of Kelly (Celso), Jessica, Brandon (Erin), Natalie, Sarah, Brittany, Matthew, Travis, Emily and Jenna, and great grandson Bradley.  He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Helen L. Harris (née Reigh).

Gordon was born on August 3, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Tyrone High School in Tyrone, PA in 1937.  After moving to Baltimore, he began working at Maryland Drydock. He received a Certificate in Traffic Management in 1957 from the University of Baltimore.  He was drafted into the Army in 1944 but only after numerous war-related deferments. During WWII he served as a radio man at the Battle of the Bulge receiving the Victory Medal in 1946 upon discharge.  He returned to Maryland Drydock where he worked as a traffic manager, retiring in 1984 after 43 years.

Gordon resided for 66 years in the Harundale community of Glen Burnie. He served with the PTA at local, state and national levels holding various titles and was very active in the Harundale community association. He received a “Father of the Year” award in 1957.  Gordon was an avid supporter of numerous charitable organizations.  He volunteered countless hours driving for Meals on Wheels.  In his leisure time, gardening was his passion.  It didn’t matter whether he was mowing his lawn, planting a flower bed, tending his vegetables, or feeding the goldfish in the pond, all aspects of gardening brought him pleasure.  He enjoyed reading, going to the theater, traveling, and watching his hometown Ravens/Orioles.  

Gordon was a long time member of St John Lutheran church in Brooklyn.  He served in many capacities such as church council, committee chair, Sunday school teacher, and bible study leader. He was very involved in the altar guild as well as training countless worship assistants.  In 1975, he was set apart in the Order of St Stephen Deacon.   He was called by St John and served as deacon for 20 years.
