Gordon Lamont Kenney died in Bozeman, Montana on November 8, 2019. He was born February 8, 1922 in Beacon, NY. He played clarinet in the Silver Knights of Kiwanis Band under Parvin Latour and lettered in track during high school. Gordon enlisted in World War II, trained as a paratrooper and was shipped overseas where he served in the Army Air Transportation Corps in North Africa, Jerusalem, and Sicily. Upon returning home he married his high school sweetheart, Esther MacPherson. They had three children Bruce, Katharine and Richard. Gordon was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Beacon; singing in the choir, serving as a Deacon, Trustee, and Elder. Esther and Gordon were both members of the Southern Dutchess Singers, a community choir. His work history included being a truck driver for the Beacon Lumber and Coal Company which was owned by his father Gordon Daniel Kenney, and putting in a career as a Laboratory Technician at the Texaco Research Center in Glenham, NY. An avid outdoorsman and hiker, Gordon was the Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 1 in Beacon; and a past president of the Hudson Valley Gem and Mineral Society. He was always welcome at area schools, giving talks about being an amateur gemologist or “rock hound” and bringing samples of Herkimer diamonds and Franklinite. He was preceded in death by his wife Esther, daughter Katharine and son Richard. He is survived by his son Bruce (Rachel Emmons), and grandchildren Rebecca (Stephen) Wiley and Thomas Hassinger (Gigi), as well as a wonderful loving family of nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces & grand-nephews. Gordon was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bozeman, Montana.
