Goodwin W. Toraason, M.D., 87, of Peru, passed away peacefully at 5:35 PM Monday, August 9, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. Dr. Toraason was born May 21, 1923 in Spring Valley, IL the son of Hiram and Mary (Balldinski) Toraason. He married Patricia R. Malone on February 1, 1947 at St. Mary Church in Peru.
She died on August 11, 1986. Survivors include 13 children, Mary Toraason of Peru, IL, Judith (Dr. Jon) Montague of Solana Beach, CA, Dr. Jeff (Barb) Toraason of Loyalton, CA, Dr. Mark (Jan) Toraason of Cincinnati, OH, Goodwin (Dianne) Toraason Jr. of Peru, IL, Dr. Luke (Errica) Toraason of San Diego, CA, Elizabeth (Bill) Tutton of Newport Beach, CA, Caroline (Dale) Morris of Marietta, GA, Patricia (Steve) Pompa of Vista, CA, John (Paula) Toraason of Peru, IL, Dr. James (Deborah) Toraason of Glenview, IL, William Toraason of Peru, IL and Claire (Richard) Cummings of Peru, IL; three grandchildren whom he raised, Nelle (Ron) Barnes of Hollowayville, IL, Dr. Nora (Joe) Orteza of Peru, IL and Hiram (Holly) Toraason of Peoria, IL; 37 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one sister, Dr. Mary Lou Toraason of Peru, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia and one grandson, Christopher Pompa. Dr. Toraason was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. He attended Northwestern University where he received his Bachelors and Doctor of Medicine degrees. He was a physician for 50 years and was an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and Northwestern University Medical College. Dr. Toraason was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Peru, Deer Park Country Club, The American Legion, the Peru Elks, Loyal Order of Moose, Knights of Columbus and LaSalle County Medical Association. He touched many lives and was loved by all who knew him.
