Gonzalo L. Rios, Jr., 77, entered into the Lord’s heavenly kingdom on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Valley Baptist Medical Center with his two daughters by his side.

He was born on February 20, 1940 in Edinburg, Texas to Gonzalo Rios, Sr. & Guadalupe Lopez Rios.

Gonzalo enlisted into the United States Army at 17 as a volunteer soldier, then continued to serve in the U.S. Army from 1961-1967, and was a Vietnam Veteran. After serving in the army his first job as a civilian was as a police officer with the Harlingen Police Department until 1975. While serving as a police officer, Gonzalo attended Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas where he received his BS Degree in Law Enforcement. During his years his employment also included working for Boggus Ford as a car salesman, was selfemployed as an independent insurance adjuster State Farm Catastrophe Division. He retired from all employment in 2006. He served as an advocate for veteran’s, was the commander of the VVA Chapter 856 Harlingen and a lifetime member of the local VFW Chapter, DAV Chapter 121, and a member of the American Legion. Gonzalo also volunteered with national organizations in disaster relief to include the Texas Baptist Men. He was an ordained Deacon at First Baptist Church Harlingen. He was a big football fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Harlingen Cardinals.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Emma J. Rios; his parents, and several siblings.

Gonzalo is survived by his loving family to cherish his wonderful memory, daughters, Yvette (Joe) Tovar, & Yvonne (Daniel) Trevino; 4 grandchildren, Valerie & Joseph Tovar; and Josiah & Asa Trevino; and numerous nieces & nephews who adored him very much.
