Gloria Shelton

Gloria Jean Hegwood Shelton, born in Shaw, Mississippi on July 18, 1948 to the late Ada Lee Pitts Manning Whitaker and RD Hegwood.
She departed peacefully from this life on January 31, 2023 in Bolivar, TN. Gloria was the oldest of eleven sisters and two brothers. She was a vibrant child with a mild and meek personality who genuinely cared for everyone.
She professed her faith to Christ at an early age.
Gloria graduated from McEvans High School in Shaw, MS. After high school, she moved to Fayetteville, TN. In her early profession, Gloria was a secretary for the Public Health Department before becoming a licensed cosmetologist for 30 plus years. After meeting the love of her life, Russell Shelton, they married and raised three boys and one girl.
In 1987, they eventually moved west to Bolivar, TN. Gloria was an incredibly devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, a faithful servant, and a true Christian leader in her community.
She has been a faithful member of Campbell Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she took pride while serving as Chairperson on the Mother Board, and Harvest Day committee.
For 20 years, Gloria hosted the Women’s Conference at her church each May around Mother’s Day.
Gloria leaves precious memories to her three wonderful children Anthony (Angie) Shelton, Steve (Anita) Shelton, DaRhonda (Charlie) Bell and one daughter-in law (Lori) Shelton. She leaves behind (16) grandkids (25) great grandkids, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends. She also leaves behind her 9 sisters, 2 brothers & a stepmother*: Queen (Alvin) Palmer (IN), Martha Greer, Everlyn Humphrey, Sharon Whitaker (TN) Teresa Manning (AL), Audrey Clay, Elaine Bowen, Olivia Johnson, Pinkie* & Randy Hegwood Jr.(IL) Phyllis Hegwood (AZ), and RL Barrett (MS). Three loving sister-in-laws Wilma Johnson, Ella Glover, Susie Knott and two devoted brother-in-laws, Andrew (Christine) Shelton & Mickey (Sherry) Shelton. She is preceded in death by her sister Arnesta “Wankie” Hicks, her son Geoffrey Shelton, and her grandson Stevie Shelton.
