Gloria M. McMullen, 90, of Milford, passed away on February 3, 2015. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. McMullen, Sr., for 53 years and the mother of Pamela M. Amendola (Milford), William J. McMullen, Jr. (Orange), Frances E. McMullen (Branford), and Mary M. McMullen Jones (New Haven). Known fondly as “Mammy,” Gloria cherished her grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, and Peter Amendola, and Roland and Carmen Rose Garofalo, and loved her sons-in-law David Amendola and Wendell C. Jones.
Born on September 29, 1924, Gloria was the 13th child of the late Joseph Catania and Maria LaRocca Catania. She had 15 siblings. Together they were raised by their Italian immigrant parents in Newburgh, New York.
After graduating from high school, Gloria went on to honorably serve her country as a Yeoman Second Class with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. It was during this time that she met her husband-to-be and soon they settled in Milford, CT to raise their family.
Gloria was employed until retirement by the City of Milford. She loved music, reading, writing, cooking, baking, collecting antiques, and taking care of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Saint Agnes Ladies’ Guild, the Milford Senior Center and the Milford Chapter of the National Association of Professional Women.
Gloria is survived by her children and their spouses, her grandchildren, her sister, Violet Hughes (New York) and her brother and his wife, Joseph and Dorothy Catania (New York). She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Madeline and Raymond Supple, (Georgia), as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
