Gloria LaVorgna Bonci, RN,  age 91, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of 59 years of the late Dino Bonci.  Gloria was born in West Haven on December 28, 1924, daughter of the late Lawrence and Lillian (Velardi) LaVorgna.  Devoted mother of Dean (Anne) Bonci of Orange, CT and Glenn Bonci (Joan Ronnenkamp) of Seattle, WA.  Cherished and adored grandmother of Matthew, Eric, and Bennett Bonci.  She is survived by her sister, Georgiana (Walter) Antonelli, and a host of beloved relatives, friends and fellow nurses.  Gloria was predeceased by her brother Albert LaVorgna, sister Lillian LoPresti, and grand-daughter Renee Bonci.  Gloria graduated from the St. Raphael School of Nursing, earning her RN degree in 1945.  Upon graduation, she served as an operating room nurse at the Hospital of St. Raphael.  In 1948, she was recruited by Dr. William Verdi, a renowned surgeon and one of the founders of the hospital, to work in his surgical practice.  They were later joined by Dr. Orlando Pelliccia, and then his associate, Dr. V. Sreenivas.  In 1983, Gloria became a school nurse until her retirement in 1995, and continued to serve as a substitute nurse to the age of 85.  Her love of children was fulfilled by her career in the West Haven School System.
