Gloria J. Van Diepenbos, 90, of Wakarusa, formerly of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa.

Gloria was born August 7, 1930 to the late Mr. Lee and Esther (Warner) Shinn in Elkhart, Indiana.   In addition to her parents, four brothers, John, Robert, Kenneth, Bill, three sisters, Catherine, Betty, and Lora (Gloria’s twin), and a granddaughter, Tamara preceded her in death.

Gloria is survived by her sister, Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Enos, her daughter and best friend, Linda Anderson, son, Timothy Van Diepenbos, grandson, Jamie Anderson and granddaughters, Amy Atherton and Sarah Van Diepenbos, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

On September 3, 1948, Gloria married the love of her life, Hessel. They were married for 58 wonderful years until Hessel passed in 2007.  Gloria loved creating arts and crafts, painting, gardening and together they built a windmill over 12 feet high and planted 200 tulips around the windmill, that feat landed them on the front page of the Elkhart Truth Newspaper.

Gloria had a big heart, was a great wife, homemaker, mother and caretaker for our family.  Gloria worked at Shaum Electric for about 12 years building large electrical panels until her husband became ill.
