Gloria Jeanne Rhoads, 65, of Ashland, IL died Friday, March 4, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born July 10, 1950 in Litchfield, IL, the daughter of Maurice Max and Rosalie Ann Whitlow Field. She married Steven Joseph Rhoads on August 11, 1973 at the Union Ave. Christian Church in Litchfield and he survives.

She is also survived by her mother, Rosalie Towell of Litchfield; three children, Stephen Rhoads (wife, Angie) of Fredericksburg, VA, Wendy Prater of Galesburg, and Amanda Rhoads of Ashland; six grandchildren, Lillian Rhoads, Grace Rhoads, Chrystal Haslett, Caray Jo Rhoads, Marcos Gonzalez, and Wyatt Prater; three siblings, Allen Field of St. Louis, MO, Susan Williams (husband, Greg) of Litchfield, and Nancy Shellhammer (husband, Todd) of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.

Gloria received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Eastern Illinois University prior to embarking on a career in education. She taught high school in Rantoul for two years and in Ashland for 18 years prior to her retirement in 2011.

She was a member of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship in Ashland. She served 17 years, along with her husband, as volunteer coordinators for the American Red Cross blood drives in the Ashland area. In addition, she devoted many hours over 21 years toward the collection and delivery of leftover food to the St. John’s Breadline and the Inner City Mission, both in Springfield.

Gloria gifted her body to the advancement of medical science.
