Gloria J. Dunkin, 68, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at her residence.

She was born July 19, 1944, in Victoria, Texas, to Pete and Lena (Ponce) Flores.On May 25, 1963, she married Frank D. Dunkin. He passed away Jan. 27, 1988.

Survivors include two sons, Kevin (Billiejo) Dunkin of Elkhart and Franklin (Carmen) Dunkin of Angleton, Texas; two daughters, Angela (Pete) Balbas of Brazoria, Texas, and Lori Dunkin (Guy) Halt of LaPorte; three brothers, Jim Flores, Joe (Carol) Flores and John (Margo) Flores, all of Elkhart; eight sisters, Betty Salazar of Angleton, Texas, Mary McClendon of Osceola, Erlinda (Robert) Pollock, Elizabeth (Henry) Cruz and Sandra Flores, all of Elkhart, Sadie (Steve) Bermea of Goshen, Jeannie (Andrew) Kropp of Chicago and Robi Caldwell of Elkhart; 11 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.

She received a degree in food service technology at Brazosport College in Lake Jackson, Texas. She later was employed at Elkhart General Hospital as a certified nursing assistant and translator prior to her retirement in 2005.

Gloria was a former United Pentecostal Church Sunday school teacher, Junior Girl leader, Girl Scout Brownie troop leader and a member of the Indiana Dietary Managers Association and the Brazosport School Food Service Association.

She completed her journey with the assistance of her loving family and the care given by the Center for Hospice Care.
