Gloria E. Clavijo
1938–2022
Gloria Esperanza Clavijo passed away on November 25, 2022, at the age of 84 due to complications from
congestive heart failure. She was born in La Paz, Bolivia, in 1938 to Primitivo and Juana Clavijo. She
immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s. Gloria became a US citizen and remained in the
Atlanta area for the remainder of her life. She had resided in Cumming, GA, since 1993.
Gloria placed significant emphasis on education for herself and for everyone in her family. She attended
Mercer College of Pharmacy and was the only woman to graduate in the Mercer Pharmacy class of
1965. She subsequently studied at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France.
She began her career as a pharmacist at Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Later, she moved to what was then
Georgia Baptist Hospital, where she worked for more than 40 years. In 1992, she was selected to work
in the pharmacy in the newly acquired Baptist North Hospital, a 26-bed facility near GA 20 in Cumming.
She moved with the hospital when the new 41-bed facility was built in 1999. In 2002, it became
Northside Forsyth Hospital and is now a 389-bed facility. Gloria worked through tremendous growth in
the local hospital and in Forsyth County.
the most selfless people anyone would ever meet, she provided warmhearted support to parishioners of
lives she touched find solace in the fact that we witnessed a true saint.
Gloria is survived by her sister, Gaby Aguirre, nine nephews and nieces, fifteen grandnephews and
grandnieces, and an entire community of beloved friends from Good Shepherd. Her stated wish was for
us to always remember that she loved each one of us.
