Gloria Barber Preston – Gloria Barber, 81 of Preston died unexpectedly at her home. She was born in Norwich on October 7, 1930 daughter of the late Peter and Ann (Brogno) Barber. Gloria retired as a code enforcement clerk for the city of Norwich, She graduated from the Norwich Free Academy Class of 1948. Gloria was a creative free thinker who marched to the beat of her own drum. “Auntie Gloria” was an accomplished author of children’s books and was in the process of compiling her life’s stories. Along with writing, she loved taking pictures and being with “the kids”. She leaves behind many friends, one being the daughter she never had, Felicia. Gloria is survived by a brother in law, Joseph R. Piela of Preston, a sister in law, Lucretia Barber of Norwich, niece Kathy Piela of Norwich, nephew Joseph Piela and his wife Mary Jo Tryba of Mansfield, nephew Peter Barber and his wife Annette of Norwich, niece Rosanne Muscarella and her husband Joseph of Norwich, she had ten great nieces and nephews, Rayleene Seyb, Alex Majewski, Rebecca Boenig, Christopher Piela, Megan Piela, Jamie Piela-Morse, Dominique Muscarella, Bianca Muscarella, Joseph Muscarella and Gia Barber,Gloria also had six great grand nieces and nephews who lit up her life; Cadence Piela, Emma Piela, Madeline Seyb, Ava Marie Boenig, Kevin “Vinnie” Boenig, Jr. and Chloe Turner. Gloria was predeceased by a sister Marie Piela and a brother Peter Barber, a niece Joanne Piela-Morse and a nephew Thomas Piela.
