Glenna J. Carpenter, 78, of Springfield, IL and formerly of Virginia, IL died Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born January 16, 1938 in Sweetwater, IL, the daughter of Theresa Buhl. She married Charles C.B. Carpenter on September 10, 1955 and he preceded her in death on November 16, 2011.
She is survived by two sons, Chuck Carpenter (wife, Debbie) of Virginia and John Carpenter (companion, Debbie Pellegrini) of Springfield; two daughters, Cindy Baughman of Canton and Beth Jones of Curran; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald Otken (wife, Katja) of Springfield and Robert Otken (wife, Betty) of Jacksonville; a niece; and three nephews.She was preceded in death by her mother and her step-father, Walter Otken, who raised her from childhood, and two grandchildren.
Glenna was a graduate of Ashland High School and served as a CNA for Passavant Hospital and Walker Nursing Home. She was later employed 35 years with the Illinois Secretary of State’s office. Her favorite pastimes were playing Bingo, gardening, and hooking rugs.
