Glenn was born Dec. 23, 1931 to Willard & Annamae Carol (Drain) Teare in Niagara Falls, New York.
Glenn met his wife Velma in Norfolk, VA during WWII, where their fathers were stationed in the Coast Guard & Navy. They became childhood sweethearts. After the war, Glenn’s family moved to Cheboygan, Michigan where he played high school football, basketball & baseball. During his junior year he joined the Michigan National Guard. Upon graduation he joined the Air Force for 3 years & then transferred to the Navy serving a total of 20 years.
On Feb. 14, 1953, he married his childhood sweetheart, Velma L. Curtis in Camden, New Jersey while they were both serving in the United States Navy. Glenn served in Navy communications aboard ships; North Hampton CLC1, Shenandoah AD26 and the Dupont DD941 touring the Mediterranean, the Atlantic and as part of the Cuban missile blockade. He also taught at the B.E.& E. School at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center.
Glenn moved his family to Bloomington in 1968, after his retirement from the Navy. He was employed seven years at Westinghouse and 16 years as a dispatcher with the Bloomington Police Department before retiring.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Velma Teare. Their three children – Jackie (Teare) Hollars & husband Larry of Platte City, Mo; Glenn Allen Teare Jr. & wife Jennifer and Pam (Teare) Snyder & husband David, both of Bloomington, IN. Nine grandchildren & spouses: Erin Hollars, Andria (Snyder) Hawkins & Cathy, Courtney Hollars, Keith Hollars & Heather, Dustin Teare, Meghan (Snyder) Fletcher & William, Liza (Teare) Franklin & Jeff, Lindsay (Snyder) Veatch & Trevor, and Lauren Snyder. Seven great-grandchildren: Taylor, Marley & Sam Hollars; Vince Franklin; Carter Purkhiser; and Lola & Elsie Dane Hawkins. His sister, Shirley (Teare) Ringo & husband Don of Park Hills, KY and sister-in-law Linda (Thompson) Teare of Portage, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard ‘Red’ & Ann Teare and younger brother, Willard H. Teare formerly of Portage, MI.
Glenn is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bloomington.
