Glenn R. Blackburn, 90 of Southwest Greensburg, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in St. Anne’s Home.
He was born January 31, 1920 in Stahlstown, a Son of the late Meade and Nannie Rebecca (Ober) Blackburn.
Glenn was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army with rank of Sergeant. He worked for Robertshaw Controls of New Stanton from 1941 to 1983 and after retiring from Robertshaw he was employed as a security guard for Westmoreland Community College from 1984 to 2003.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Philanthropy Lodge #225 F & A.M. and the V.F.W. Post # 33, all of Greensburg.
During his semi-retirement years, Glenn’s passion for wildlife and nature compelled him to pursue a goal; preserving the bluebird and wren populations. This mission resulted in his giving away more than 300 bird houses he lovingly made by hand in hopes of perpetuating these wonderful creatures. Our wish is for Glenn’s love and devotion to nature be his legacy, and that others will feel driven to carry it on.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Jane (Fleming) Blackburn and a son Douglas Glenn Blackburn..
Surviving are his Daughter, Pamela Sue MacCulley & husband Michael of Jacksonville Beach, FL, a Sister, Mary Elizabeth Buren of Nipomo, CA, a Step-Granddaughter, Courtney Taylor, a Step-Grandson, Jon Michael MacCulley and wife Andrea, and Four Step Great-Grandchildren.
He will be missed dearly by his family and friends and remembered as a devoted husband and father with a kind heart, unselfish attitude and gentle spirit.
if friends desire to the First United Methodist Church, 15 East Second St., Greensburg, PA 15601.
