Dr. Glenn Lamar Brown, a physicist who worked for American defense for 42 years, died of cancer at home in Strawberry, Nov. 28, 2010. He was 87.
Dr. Brown was born Oct. 14, 1923 in Miami, Ariz. and was awarded a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California – Los Angeles in 1955.
From 1942 to 1945 he was a radar specialist for the U.S. Army Air Force, stationed in England and France. After the war, he attended Arizona State University and then UCLA.
He worked in Los Angeles from 1956 to 1972 at Ramo Woolridge, Space General and American Nucleonics. He then opened his own company, Research Engineering and Planning, which specialized in defense contracting. During that time, he worked in Washington, D.C., The Redstone Arsenal, Ala., and at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.
Dr. Brown retired after the death of his wife, Elizabeth R. Brown in 2000 and moved to Strawberry, where he remained active, serving on the Pine-Strawberry Water Board.
Over the course of his life, he lost two sons, Morgan in 1957 and Marshall in 1991. He is survived by a son, Keith Brown; a daughter, Kathleen Brown-Noblet; and one grandchild, Scott Noblet.
