Glenn Jackson Janes, 82, of Meredosia, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Jacksonville, surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 19, 1936, near Camdenton, MO, the son of Lester J. and Erma R. Davis Janes. He married Jane Louise Willey on Nov. 27, 1955, at the Versailles Christian Church and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, David Janes of Quincy and Robert (Jillian) Janes of Meredosia; a step-grandson, Christopher Dieterle of Jacksonville; one sister, Nadine Kiser of Westminster, CO; one niece, Kimberly McDonald of Arvada, CO; one nephew, Jason (Greta) Kiser of Westminster, CO; three great nephews; four great nieces; and a special friend and caregiver, Rebecca Cooper. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Harry and Berniece Willey and a brother-in-law, Richard Kiser.
Glenn and his family lived in Richland, MO before moving to Hutsonville, IL and then to Meredosia, IL. A 1953 graduate of Meredosia-Chambersburg High School, Glenn worked for Central Illinois Public Service Company (now Ameren) for 43 years.
Glenn was a member of Versailles Christian Church, serving on the church board as deacon and treasurer for several years. He enjoyed helping with various church building projects.
In retirement, Glenn began collecting and restoring old outboard motors. He was a member of the Twin Rivers Chapter of AOMCI, the Antique Outboard Motor Club, Inc. Glenn and Jane especially enjoyed attending the Tomahawk Nationals at Tomahawk, WI.
He enjoyed traveling, from camping with his sons when they were younger, to day trips, and many U.S. trips and European cruises with friends. He was a NASCAR fan, attending the Daytona 500 for many years.
