Glenn Eugene Ballou, 76, of Roanoke, Virginia departed this life in the early morning hours on Thursday, February 23, 2023, in Suitland, Maryland.  Glenn was born November 27, 1946 in Roanoke, Virginia, the first son of six children born to the late Joseph Grant and Dorothy Pettiford Ballou.  During his early years as a child, Glenn professed his faith in Christ and joined the .     St. Gerard  Catholic Church where he served faithfully at that time.

He graduated from Lucy Addison High School in Roanoke, VA in 1965 and, thereafter, enlisted in the United States Air Force serving 22 years as a Telecommunications Operations Specialist and later completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer System Operations in the military before receiving an honorable discharge in 1987. Glenn was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his command and performance functions in SAC operations in 1984 in Hawaii.  After retiring from the U.S.

Glenn was married to Helen Cull, who preceded him in death, and from that union were four children: two daughters, Helena and Gwendolyn Cull, two sons, Glenn II and Gerome Ballou.

Glenn had a tremendous love for music and singing. He enjoyed being an admired Tenor vocalist for his high school choir and military service traveling band. During Glenn’s military service in the U.S. Air Force, he performed as a solo vocalist with various bands, at clubs, as a DJ at Karaoke’s, and many charity community events in Roanoke. Glenn loved to read, and he was an advocate book reader with an intense interest in science fiction novels.  Being a music entertainer and often performing, Glenn was a very friendly person with a kind personality and a zest for living.  Glenn will be sadly missed.

Those left to cherish Glenn’s memory and mourn their loss are his devoted loving friend, Nussara Reid, Reid Daughters and Grandchildren; four sisters: Gail Ballou Dawkins (Robert) of Roanoke, Gay Ballou Fuller (Lawrence) of Roanoke, Cheryl Ballou King of Fort Washington, MD, and Sydney Ballou Turckes (Michael) of Woodbine, GA; one brother: Courtland Ballou, Sr. of Fort Washington, MD; close friend, Richard Webb of Roanoke and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

God knew that you were tired,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 And the hills were hard to climb.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              So, he gently closed your weary eyes, And whispered, “Peace be thine.”
