Glenn E. Gindler, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020, at the age of 77 after over a month-long battle with COVID-19. He died peacefully with his daughter, Robyn, by his side listening to the song, “Amazing Grace”.
As a young boy, Glenn learned to work hard on his parents’ family farm and continued his love of farming throughout his adult life, raising hogs, soybeans, and corn. Out of high school, Glenn joined the Navy and later transferred to the US Army, where he served as a Warrant Officer and retired from the Army Reserves. In addition to military service, Glenn retired as an electrician at Shell Oil. Later, he worked as an independent contractor where he helped construct an oil refinery in India. Glenn followed in his father’s footsteps and served on the Madison County Farm Bureau Board of Directors.
In the past several years of his life, he enjoyed serving in the American Legion where he held the office of Fifth Division Senior Vice Commander. He had many interests including singing in the community and church choirs, traveling, gardening, and taking care of his dogs, cats, and guineas. Glenn was an active member of St. Paul’s LCMS church. His Christian faith was important to him and his last word, responding to a loved one’s text from Joshua 1:9 was, “Amen”.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Fern Gindler; his wife, Jeanette; and his infant son, Mark. He is survived by his sister, Eileen (Roger) Westfall and his niece, Mindi; children Randy (Kim) Gindler, Robyn Somraty, Jana (Jeff) Ehrlich, Joyce Griggs, and Justin Griggs; grandchildren, Kirsten (Ben) Ginzky, Kylie Somraty, Lars Gindler, Chloe Somraty, Jack Griggs, and Peyton Griggs; his dogs, Lucy and Flash; and many other extended family and friends that are too numerous to mention.
