Glendavere Lovejoy Mehle Northrop, 106 years young, of Waveny Care Center and East Norwalk peacefully passed away on November 3, 2010. She was the last surviving child of Captain Frederick Frances Lovejoy, former owner of White Rock & Grassy Hammock Oyster Co., East Norwalk and Minnie C. Blydenburgh Lovejoy. Glenda, as she was called in her later years, was born at 13 Cove Ave., E. Norwalk. Summers were spent on Betts Island with her family and Clarence Merritt’s family. Frances Merritt Clark and Glenda had remained good friends throughout the years. She graduated from Norwalk High School and was employed, during the 1920’s, as a secretary at Norwalk High School and later was the office manager of her father’s oyster company.
She was predeceased by her husband Francis Northrop, and her first husband, Homer Mehle; her brother Frederick Lovejoy, and her sisters Dorothy Lovejoy Bauer and Mildred Lovejoy Wien. She is survived by her twin sons, Owen Lovejoy Mehle and his wife Cheryl Warner Mehle of East Norwalk, and Paul Frederick Mehle and his wife Suzana Galera Mehle of Miami, Florida; 4 stepsons, Warren Mehle deceased, Donald Mehle and Pam Eck Mehle of Fountain Valley, California, Alan Mehle and Carol Wolf Mehle of Sedona, Arizona and Donald and Mary Jane Northrop of Maine; five grandchildren: Owen’s sons,Owen Jeffrey Mehle of Tampa, Florida and Chad Kristopher Mehle of Los Angeles, CA, Paul and Suzana’s children, Ashlee Kornelia Mehle of Los Angeles, and sons, Paul Stanley Mehle and Glenn Lovejoy Mehle of Miami. Four step grandchildren, David Mehle of California, Mike and Jeff Mehle of Colorado and kathy Mehle Bowman of Kansas. The family is deeply grateful to the staff of Waveny Care Center for the loving and tender care they provided Glenda as well as for the music and laughs they shared. Michelle, Mary Ann and Patti we thank you. She will be missed by all whom she met. She was a lovely lady.
