Dr. Glen Royce Johnson passed from this existence at home, surrounded by his wife Daphne and two sons, Gregory and Jason on February 20, 2022. He was 18 days short of his 79th birthday.

Royce, as he was frequently called, was born in New Grant, Trinidad on March 10, 1943 as third of six children of the late Fitzroy and Irene (Dickson) Johnson. He graduated Presentation College where he also served as a teacher before attending Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Beyond his educational path and career, Royce loved his family and his native Trinidad. Throughout his life in the United States, he ensured that he and his family remained connected to Trinidad. He was a de-facto cultural attaché in bringing Trinidadian artists to the US to celebrate Trinidadian culture stateside and he was committed to ensuring his children’s and grandchildren’s connection to the islands via regular pilgrimages.

The word commitment was naturally associated with him.

Glen’s career path changed but his commitment to improving lives did not. He became Chief Medical Officer of national outfit PCA Health Plans based in Miami and eventually he ended his career as Chief Executive Officer of Community Health Choice in Houston, TX. Trinidad, however, was never far from his thoughts or his commitment.

His laugh, smile, and pride were never more evident and could never be contained, especially when he was referred to as “Pops” by his grandchildren. He is survived by the love of his life, Daphne; his sons, Gregory Royce and Jason Andre; his grandchildren, Garrison Royce, Ian Lewis, Dominic Stephen, Cecily Grace and Aaron James; his siblings, Frank, Rawle and Arlene; and numerous other family members. His body may have left this Earth but his spirit and legacy live strong in every place and every person he touched.
