Glen Ellis Owens, 93, of Boise, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Boise. Born on March 22, 1922 to Edward and Clois Owens in Jerome, Idaho, Glen was the third of 12 children in his family. He is survived by his brothers, Don (Nadine) of Boise and Arlias (Donna) of Bremerton, Washington and his sister, Carla Mabey of Boise.
Glen met the love of his life, Ada Lucile Gardner, while attending Vocational School in Weiser, ID. They were married on June 30, 1943 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They had two daughters, Carla (Clair) Mumau of Waikoloa, Hawaii and Glenda (Steve) Lamborn of Meridian, Idaho. Their third daughter, Florie (Bob) Glenn of Boise, joined the family later in life.
Glen served honorably in the U.S. military during World War II. After marrying Ada, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 515th Field Artillery Battalion at Fort Lewis, Washington. He served in combat in the European Theater of Operations, supporting the invasion of Germany in 1945. Near the conclusion of the war, he helped liberate a satellite camp of the Dachau Concentration Camp in Lansberg, Germany.
After his discharge from the Army, Glen and Ada moved to Boise, Idaho where they established their home. He worked for the General Electric Supply Company for many years and retired from the company in 1982.
Glen is preceded in death by his wife Ada, his parents, and eight siblings. He is survived by his three daughters, 11 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
