Glen E. Hershberger, 98, of Goshen and formerly of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 9:10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen.

He was born in Harper, Kan., April 21, 1917, to the late William and Sarah (Zimmerman) Hershberger and married Evelyn Stamets on Jan. 22, 1950, in Manistique, Mich. He remained her loyal and loving husband until her passing in March of 1999.

Surviving are his son, Glen (Penny) Hershberger II of Elkhart; daughters Echo (Terry) Hiner and Francelia (Stan Scherer) Roig of Goshen; grandchildren Angela Hiner, Sarah (Chris) Street, Maria (Raymond) Miller II, Heather (Sheldon Lanham) Hershberger and Christine (Edward) Lima; six great-grandchildren; and special friend Beth Yoder of Goshen.

Among those preceding him in death were his son, Tim Putnam, who passed away in December, and siblings Ruby Hay, Susan Chupp and John Hershberger..

Glen was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II as a heavy mortar crew member in the Asiatic-Pacific theater with M company of the 152nd Infantry Division. He also worked as a group leader at CTS of Elkhart for nearly 30 years before he retired in 1980.

An avid Chicago Cubs fan, Glen never missed watching or listening to a game. He also enjoyed bowling, and often bowled with his wife in his earlier years. He was a member of Goshen VFW No. 985, and enjoyed getting in a game or two of euchre whenever he could with the help of some very special ladies who made sure he had a ride there on the nights he wanted to play. He dearly loved them all.
