GLADYS T. DEL SOL

Our treasured mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Gladys T. del Sol passed away peacefully on Aug. 2, 2022. She was a few months shy of her 94th birthday. Although not common in her era, Gladys earned multiple college degrees, always with honors and at the top of her class.

In Cuba, she was a pharmacist and a Professor of Philosophy and Arts at the University of Havana. She relocated to Miami with her husband, Dr. Ernesto Perez, and their three young children in 1961.

In Miami, Gladys rose to become an executive at Southeast Bank.

Gladys believed that education played a singularly important role in an individual’s life and long-term success. She was an avid reader, a lifelong learner and world traveler, but it was her faith, along with her family, that helped her overcome significant challenges.

Our matriarch was a devout Roman Catholic who thrived on doing good for others and always believed the best about other people. She had a huge heart and approached each day looking to help whomever she came across.

These are the values that she embodied, and shared with all of those in her orbit.

Gladys is survived by her two sons, Dr. Ernesto J. Perez (Susan) and Dr. Jorge E. Perez (Kerry). She was pre-deceased by her beloved daughter, Gelsys. She was known fondly as “Abuela” by her six grandchildren, including Ivette Goizueta-Mendes, Miles Perez, Benjamin Perez, Eric Perez, Justin Perez and Peyton Perez. She was a great-grandmother to Carlos Marban, Darren Marban, Ryleigh Perez, Violette Perez and Quinn Perez.

The Perez-del Sol family will fondly remember the many birthday and special occasions celebrated at her home and the favorite dishes that she cooked for each of us.
