On Monday May 4, 2020 Gladys Maxine Dougherty, age 92, passed away at the State Veterans Home in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born September 3, 1927 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Ray and Hazel Sawtelle. She served in the Navy for 4 years in Brooklyn, New York where she met her husband, Bill Dougherty. Gladys was a loving and devoted mother to their son, Thomas Dougherty. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; also, her brother James Sawtelle and her sister Mary Ann Palmer. Gladys is survived by her son Thomas and sister Helen McDaniel as well as several nieces and nephews.
Gladys loved spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed working for the Huntsville Public Library but at the age of 91, health issues forced her to retire “early”. She had hoped to work until she was 95! Gladys was also a member of Trinity Methodist Church.
