Gladys Marie James Jackson was a native of Whatley and a resident of Grove Hill. On Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020 at the age of 86 Gladys went home to be with the Lord. Gladys was born Nov. 24, 1934 to Nettie Lou and Elbert James Sr. She was united early in life with the Morning Star Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member until her failing health. She was employed with Deaver’s Restaurant and Diamond Gas station as a cook. Her passion was cooking and being a devoted mother to her children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Dale James; sister, Willie Clyde James; and daughter, Annette Jackson Horn.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her two daughters, Debra (Calvin) Love of Hinesville, Ga., and Delaine (Richard) Rogers of Grove Hill; three sons, Wayne (Lizest) James of Whatley, Charles (Denise) Jackson of Huntsville and Kendalle (Tiffany) Jackson of Grove Hill; one brother, Elbert (Marion) James Jr.; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Also a devoted home health nurse, Nichelle Johnson and a devoted beloved friend, Hannah “Doll” Thomas.
