Gladys M. (Beach) Chapin, age 84 of Midland, died Monday morning June 1, 2009 at MidMichigan Medical Center. The daughter of the late Winslow and Dora (Brink) Beach was born in Detroit on June 17, 1924. Gladys was a member of Midland Missionary Church where she served as a greeter. She enjoyed dancing, going to her coffee group on Thursdays and was a wonderful cook. On June 27, 1941 in Midland Gladys married Robert Chapin. He died on July 16, 1998.
Surviving are her son, Gary (Roberta) Chapin of Midland; daughters, Barbara Strouse of Wheeler, Shirley (Bill) Walker of Midland; 8 grandchildren, Shanna Strouse, Park Strouse, Robert Woodard, Kymberly Scalia, Wade Chapin, Danna McCann, Jon Chapin, Amy Hobbs; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Hoon and Dorothy Drake both of Midland; many nieces, nephews and her friends from the dancing group. Gladys was preceded in death by her brothers, Orin and Harold Beach; sisters, Lillian Kunick and Betty King.Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday June 4, 2009 from Midland Missionary Church. Pastor Fred Becknell will officiate. Interment will follow in Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
