Gladys Louise Holmes was born to John and Catherine Holmes on September 25, 1932 in Camden, NJ. In 1954, she married the love of her life Andrew Mingo Young. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage. She became a widow in December 2011. Gladys and Andrew had one daughter, April Lorraine Young, born in 1955.
Gladys graduated from Camden High School in Camden N.J. Much later in life she completed courses at Montgomery County College . Although she was a wage earner at different periods in her life, she spent the majority as a homemaker and as an activist. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend, but making a difference in her community was paramount for her.
Gladys will be greatly missed by her family,friends and neighbors. May her spirit continue to burn as brightly as her love for her community and for her people. All people were her people.
