Gladys Lorene Roberts 91, went to be with her Lord on November 15, 2016, surrounded by her family in her hometown of Emmett.

Gladys was born on November 28, 1924, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Earnest and Lettie (Sparks) Stiles. Their family were proud members of the Cherokee Nation. She married Homer E. Roberts on Jan. 10, 1943, then finished high school that same year, while Homer served his country in WWII. In the following months, she moved with her family to Idaho. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Army, Homer joined her and made their home in Emmett in July, 1945. Along with caring for an active family, Gladys enjoyed her years working for JC Penney as a sales clerk, and later at the Stokely Van Camp cannery until it closed. She was a hard worker, caring mother, and proud grandmother, who will be missed very much. Gladys used to say everyone knew her as “Homer’s wife”, but she was much, much more than that to her many friends. Those who were friends with her children and grandchildren knew her as the best cook in town. No one left her home with and empty stomach.

Gladys is survived by her children, Jim (Billie) Roberts, Sondra Ingram, and Brenda (JoDee) Martin; 10 grandchildren, Brett (Teaira) McGann, Scott (Kami) McGann, Heidi (Todd) Barnett, Sean Sweeney, Allison (Dean) Brookins, Kelli (Matt) Boles, Dakota Martin, CoDee (Justice) Martin, ManDee (John) Bertagnolli, and SanDee (Chris) Case; 18 great-grandchildren; ages 18 to 3. Two brothers, Arlie (Clella) Stiles of Emmett, and Sherrill (Linda) Stiles of Dallas, TX; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a special member of their family Larry (Mel) Kincaid. She was preceded in death by Homer, her husband of 60 years, her parents Ernest & Lettie Stiles, and her brother Ernest Stiles, Jr.

Special thanks to the Meadow View staff and Heart-n- Home Hospice and Dr. Thomson, who were loving and tender to Gladys each and every day.
