Gladys Dozier Smith
Saluda, SC: Gladys Dozier Smith, 82, of 1403 High Point Road, the widow of Clarence Earl “Smitty” Smith, passed away on Wednesday morning, September 13, 2023 at the home.
She was born in Saluda, SC, July 18, 1941, daughter of the late Romulus Sr. and Annie Johnson Dozier. At an early age she joined Rock Hill Baptist Church. She received her education in the public schools of Saluda County, SC, where she was a high school graduate. Gladys moved to New York to live where she met and married (to the now late) Clarence Earl (Smitty) Smith and this union was blessed with six children. The family moved to Saluda in 1985, and united with Rock Hill Baptist Church and she was employed by Saluda School District where she retired after many years of service. She was an Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by siblings, Romulus Dozier, Jr, Clarence Dozier, Mary Coleman, Annie Smokes, Ruth Watson and Otis Artis Dozier.
She leaves a legacy of love and memories to her; sons, Bradley Smith Seattle, WA, Clarence O. Smith, Deionn Smith, Terrence Smith and Dominque D. Smith all of Saluda, SC and Fredrick Smith of Columbia, SC; daughter, Paula Smith, New York, NY and God-daughter, Tameka Dozier of Saluda, SC; ten grandchildren. Zaquan, Shaquille, Mariah, Ricky, Sharaine, Brad. Jermain, Jasani and Kan’Dena; eleven great grandchildren; brother and wife, Henry and Lorraine Dozier of New York, NY; sisters, Carrie B. Dozier and Sherlleyne Dukes both of Saluda, SC; five sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
The family is at the home.
