Gladys Couch Merritt, age 85, passed away peacefully at Piedmont Newnan Hospital on June 21, 2018. Gladys was born in Newnan, GA on March 24, 1933 to the late Wilbur Washington Couch and Willie Todd Couch. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Wilbur Washington Couch, Jr., Henderson Couch; sisters, Margie Hayes, Mildred Robbins and Madge Arnold.

She was also preceded in death by husbands, Jim Lillis and Marvin Merritt. Gladys graduated from Newnan High School in 1951. After she graduated she lived in several places including, Savannah, Michigan, Houston, Jacksonville, Memphis and Atlanta. Gladys loved all her extended family and had a special place in her heart for all her friends. She was a big part of Melody, Frank, Frank, Jr. and Charlie Farmer’s family.

Gladys lived life to the fullest. She was the owner of G’s Ladies Apparel shop, in Atlanta, she operated a booth at a Flea Market for many years, also in Atlanta and later owned The Green Door in Newnan. She eventually moved back to Newnan to Corinth Road which she always considered home.
