Gladys Chapman, was born October 17, 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Louise Carter and Guy Alcorn. She spent her childhood in Indiana moving to Roswell, NM in 1938. She graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1944 and won the Gregg Shorthand award. Gladys worked for Western Union during WW II. She married Lyman Chapman and his four children February 10, 1945 in Belen.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, Las Vegas and Deming, Elder, treasurer, clerk of the session and was awarded membership program agency, US Presbyterian Church for Christian service in November 1980 in Las Vegas. She loved to square dance and taught square dancing with Lyman Chapman in Albuquerque and Las Vegas in 1940’s to early 1980’s and volunteered at the Las Vegas Hospital Auxiliary. She made over 100 afghans for Victory Junction Gang and traveled all over the US including Hawaii and Alaska. She was also active in the Women’s Circle for over 30 years.

She is survived by daughter, Evelyn Morgan of Deming; step-daughters, Marian MacLeod of Albuquerque, Betty Jean Folkner and husband Jack, Kathryn M. Bland and husband Jim both of Sierra Vista, AZ; step-son, Donald Chapman and wife Elva of Fulton, TX, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gladys was preceded in death by parents, Guy and Louise Alcorn and husband, Lyman Chapman who died February 27, 2002.
