Gladys (Barber) Card Greene, 101, of 33 Spring St. died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday February 4, 2007. She was the wife of the late George V. Card, Sr. and Ford A. Greene.
Born in Hope Valley on August 15, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Ginevra (Wilcox) Barber.
Mrs. Green graduated from the Hope Valley School and East Greenwich Academy. Attended the Old Normal School in Providence. (Now known as Rhode Island College.)
She taught at Charlestown School in 1924 and Hope Valley School in 1925. After raising a family of four she returned to teaching. She continued her courses at Rhode Island College and received her degree and continued teaching at Hope Valley School for twenty six years.
Mrs. Greene was a member of the Hope Valley Fire Auxiliary. Hope Valley Grange, retired teachers association and the Hope Valley Baptist Church for over 89 years.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Nancy Hinchliffe of Wyoming, Sandra King of Ashaway, George Card Jr., of Hope Valley and John A. Card of Rockville. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was pre deceased by a brother Ernest H. Barber.
