Gladstone Earl Hird affectionately known as Obal was born May 27 1944 to the late Ethlyn Mckenzzzie and Herbert Hird in Kingston Jamaica West Indies. He was the 2nd child for Ethlyn and Herbert. Obal attended St. Aloysius Primary School until Graduation. He then attended trad school where he learned automotive painting and auto mechanics. After completing vocational school Obal was then employed at the Kingston Wharves, packing and loading containers for shipping. He worked there until he migrated to the United States in Feb 1982.

Upon his arrival in US Obal lived in Brooklyn and started working in the automotive field. He was a very hard worker and he loved working on cars

Obal was loved by everyone who knew him. Whenever he greeted you he would say “Wha happen star”. His other favorite line “hey who star”

A kind and quiet individual Obal was jovial and known for his witty personality and famous dance moves especially the “three step”. Very down to earth, Obal loved talking and interacting with everyone who was willing to listen He could be found at social events or any little pub sipping a drink.

Obal lived his life with passion and enjoyed his family and friends  favorite food,  brown stew, red snapper with okra, and  mash potatoes, season rice and fish soup with that same passion.

As life happens Obal was sick for a while and undergoing treatment. His friends Tony and Freddy, were there for him. His brothers Val and Errol were constantly checking on him to ensure that he was never left unattended at any time. His sister in law Junie would make sure that she cooked any meal that he desired, especially his fish dinner which was a regular request.

On July 25 2021 Obal passed away  peacefully from this life at 3:30 am.

Gladstone leaves to cherish his memory and remember his love are his sons Daniel “kirk” Hird ,and Kelvin Hird. 7 brothers Lloyd, Derrick, Delroy, Lasell, Baastil Hird, Lenford “Val” and Errol Davis. : Sister in law Junie Davis, daughter in law Carole, 4 grandchildren shakeam, shanieka , Londell, and Shenique Hird 4 great grand children.  Obal will also be missed by his many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.   May his soul rest in eternal peace
