MARGARET VIRGINIA (GINI) GADD MCCANNE
CLAREMONT – Gini McCanne, 76, died from complications of COPD on April 29 at Pomona Valley Hospital. The daughter of Colonel Robert F. Gadd, Jr. and Barry I. Gadd, she was born in Los Angeles, CA and raised in Connecticut.
Gini attended the University of Connecticut where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She served in the Army Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War and later settled in Claremont, CA, working for 30 years in hospital administration at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora.
Those who knew her were familiar with her love for African Violets. For nearly 40 years, she was a member, commercial grower, and master judge of the African Violet Society of America. She turned this love of violets into a home business, Violet Perfection by Gini, that she operated for over 30 years.
Gini was an extremely spunky, sassy, and strong-willed woman who always got the job done. She enjoyed many family ski trips and jaunts to Las Vegas with her friends and family. She will be remembered for her inquisitiveness, sense of humor, and crazy antics.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother Lt Colonel Richard B. Gadd of Vienna, VA and her son-in-law, Kevin Kearney of Claremont, CA. Gini is survived by her brother Colonel Robert F (Sunny) Gadd, III of Colorado Springs, CO and her children, Traci Kearney of Claremont, CA, Kristi (John) Baugus of Azusa, CA, and Darren (Tirzah) McCanne of Crestline, CA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Justin, Jessica, Jade, Makenna, Amberlee, Karina, and her great-grandson Noah.
