Gilford Dudley “Gil” Sims, 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, April 2, 2013. He was born in New Boston, Texas on June 24, 1922 to James and Cora (Martin) Sims. Gil was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII (1942-1946). He was a Gunners Mate 2nd Class aboard the USS Sperry. Gilford married the love of his life, Maudie Mae Workman on September 23, 1944 in Colorado Springs. They were together for 68 years before Maudie’s passing on October 15, 2012. Gil was known by many as a kind and compassionate man, but he had an onery streak, just ask the nurses at Hildebrand Care Center. We will miss you Dad, but we know you are now at peace, out of pain, and reunited with your beautiful wife and son. Love you pops. Mr. Sims is survived by his children, Jim (Linda) Sims, John (Rose) Sims both of Corpus Christi, TX, and Joe (Debbie) Sims of Canon City; nine grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jack in 1987.
