Gilberto “Beto” Gonzalez, 67, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017 in Harlingen, Texas

He was born in Harlingen, Texas on December 14, 1949 to Cruz R. Gonzales and Sara Casas Gonzales. He learned the value of hard work early in life as he would travel upstate as a migrant worker. A 1968 graduate of Harlingen High, Gilbert joined the United States Military Airforce a few months after graduating where he served from 1968-1972. He received a B.A. Degree and then joined the Harlingen Police department in 1973 serving as a patrolman, investigator and lastly in the Property & Evidence Division where he retired in 1999. He then joined the United States Department of Transportation as an investigator and retired in 2013. Gilbert enjoyed fishing with his family and had a talent for drawing. A skill he mastered while sketching out crime scene drawings for court proceedings. He also loved singing along to the oldies.

Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Manuel Cavazos and Martina Avila Cavazos, sister-in-law Josefina Gonzales, brother-in-law Juan Vasquez, sister Rosa G. Vasquez, niece Anita Ann Trevino, nephew Mark Anthony Vasquez, niece Gina Gonzales and granddaughter Alessandra V. Morta Gonzales.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 43 years Minerva Cavazos, their children Orlando Gonzales (Michelle Morta), David Gonzales, and Ana Rollins (Casey). He also leaves behind his grandchildren Annelle A., Orlando Jr., Alysse A., Isabel M. Gonzales, Chris Morta, Victoria, Elizabeth, and Isabella Martinez. He was greatly loved by his children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.
