Gilbert Sherman Saloga passed away December 27, 2022, surrounded by family at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. He was born January 11, 1932 in Hutchison, Kansas to Emil and Ruth Saloga. Gilbert married the love of his life, Ann Davis Smith, on June 10, 1967. They were married 49 years and raised six daughters.

Gilbert and Ann owned Saloga’s Jewelry for 21 years until their retirement.  He was an expert watchmaker and jeweler. Gilbert was a charter member and life member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles and held several offices including President. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, member of Hobbs Masonic Lodge 63, Agape Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, and Ballut Abyad Shrine. Gilbert was a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church and served on the Bishop’s Committee and was a Church Sexton. Over the years he had many hobbies including square dancing, boating, hunting and fishing, and motorcycling. Gilbert had his pilot’s license and owned his own plane. 

Gilbert is survived by daughters Jennifer (Joe) Sullivan, Patsy (Victor) Romero, Jackie (Eugene) Aguilar, Nancy (Andy) Graham, Teresa (Cecil) Bynum, Tracie (Stacy) Willard, 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and special friend Carol Lamm.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ann, his parents, brothers Leland and Lawrence Saloga, and two grandsons.

Gilbert never met a stranger and will be remembered for his keen sense of humor and strong work ethic.  He never missed an opportunity to enjoy life and was always up for an adventure. He could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a hand. He was so loved and will be greatly missed.
